Anglers' preference with regards to the time of crappie fishing may vary from one person to another. There are some
who would like to fish during the night and all the crappie bait presented here will work regardless of your
preference time for crappie fishing. Of course taking the best time and technique with the usage of these baits
will take your chances a level or two higher.
· The marabou types consist of small bodies with furry and fluffy feathers as its tails. Once submerged in water,
the tail attached with feathers' consistency and appearance becomes totally different. These types of jigs are
considered among the widely used by fishermen due to the motion it creates underwater. They are also the most
convenient if a boat seems to be not in your transportation choices as they can be implemented under a certain slip
bobber efficiently.
· The jigs with twisting tails, are rigged within a miniature jig head which also produces fluid movement
underwater. This type of bait tipped with twisting tails is known as successful crappie lures. Anglers have even
testified that these types accord well and may equal the efficiency of live baits.
· Probably the best crappie bait ever developed and ever known since the dawn of man is the live minnows. The jigs
as mentioned above can be fused altogether as one with the minnows for deadly and enticing bait for the crappies.
The preferred and recommended method of hooking the minnows is to hook them on the lips with the second hook
intentionally hanging freely.
· As an extension to the above selection, another type is the so called shiner minnow. The size to be used actually
depends on the size of the crappie you are purposely trying to lure. Large crappies demand bigger types while small
ones are for smaller types navigating in a large group. These are also efficient baits since they reflect
variations in light rays through their miniature forms making them more attractive for the crappies.
· Another crappie bait which also yield positive results is the maggots, you can actually "develop" them on your
own. Start the process by cutting a piece of meat or a mud fish. Bury the sample and dig it up after a week.
You will notice that maggots have bred through the sample then fetch all of them and contain them in a jar. Add
white cornmeal to the jar and refrigerate for three weeks. After which you can now use them as your crappie bait as
they have increased in size way more than when you originally fetched them.
